Like many businesses, the Waitomo Glowworm Caves has been hit hard by Covid. In 2019, more than half a million people visited the popular tourist destination, but boarder closures saw numbers drastically decline.
However, there’s been a silver lining through it all, with kaimahi being redeployed as kaitiaki taiao, maintaining whenua in around the Waitomo area.
