The inaugural winner of Rākau o te tau / Tree of the year Aotearoa NZ was announced this week – it’s the Sacred Pōhutukawa Tangi Te Korowhiti having received over 1,730 votes, out of the total 6,268 votes received from tree lovers around the country.There was a special screening this week of Te Kūititanga: The Narrowing, a documentary from the 1980s reflecting concerns of Kaumātua of that time around maintaining of cultural identity and the changing attitudes of rangatahi as they looked to conserve ways of the past.
