One thousand rākau taketake have been planted along the Waipā river in Ōtorohanga in a bid to strengthen not only the river embankments, but also to restore the quality of the wai.
Te Nehenehenui RMC representative Wikitoria Tāne says it’s also a chance for people to learn about the significance of the kaitiaki Waiwaiā.
This kaupapa was collectively run by Te Nehenehenui RMC, The Ōtorohanga District Council, the Waikato Regional Council and the Waikato River Authority.
