Ensuring the wellbeing of the Waipā river and its tributaries is the motivation behind Te Mauri o Waiwaiā – a wānanga hosted by kaitiaki of Te Keeti and Te Kotahitanga Marae, demonstrating ways of monitoring the quality of the awa from a cultural worldview.
It was a chance for whānau, including kaumātua, to see first-hand what goes into the assessment of their awa that has long provided sustenance for hapū in the region.
