Over 300 descendants from Marokopa (Mirumiru Marae) gathered at Ngā Taiātea Wharekura in Kirikiriroa over the weekend to celebrate the inaugural Te Tokamāpunatanga o Te Tau Hou Māori.
The purpose of the 3-day event was to reconnect the whānau of Marokopa, who live far and wide, with eachother to learn and strengthen their Marokopatanga.
A number of workshops were shared and taught throughout the weekend covering a range of different activities from kākahu māori, to learning Marokopa specific waiata, history, maramataka and Te Reo Māori.
The event concluded with the launching of 4 books written by some of their very own orators, which captures some of the stories and memories of the past unique to the people of Marokopa.
MFM was proud to be part of capturing this wonderful event.
